1) Some of the shortages were leather, since Kirsti had to have fish skin shoes. Also they couldn't have fuel to warm their homes. Living without staples, like fuel, was probably hard since they couldn't get things that they needed.

2)The Danes could protect the Jews by risking their lives to help them escape, or hide them, like how Annemarie's family hides Ellen.

3)The fireworks that Kirti saw were the Danish military burning there ships. They did this so the Nazis could not take their ships and use them to make their military stronger.

1.)They had shortages of chicken, leather and rubber, since the Nazis were taking it for themselves and their army.

2.) The Danish people could hide them, like in The Butterfly, or they could hide them like Annemarie's family did. They could also help them escape to safety, like Peter did to Ellen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rosen.

3.) The 'fireworks show' Kirsti watched was the Danes blowing up their ships. They blew them up because the Germans would use them against Denmark because they would steal them.

1. Some other examples of shortages in this book are leather, electricity, and varieties of foods. When Mrs. Johansen bought Kristi new fish skin shoes, she explained how they didn't have leather anymore. Also, they have to use candles and coal instead of electricity. A lot of the Danes diet is based on potatoes or other cheap foods.
2. The Danish people can act as bodygaurds to the Jews by using their houses as hiding places for the Jews. They could also participate in the Resistance to slow the Nazis.
3. The "fireworks show" that Kristi watched was actully the Danes burning their own naval fleet. They did this so the Nazis couldn't use their ships or supplies against Denmark.

1)The people of Danish had a shortage of energy. 2)They would risk their lives so the German soldiers would not harm King Christian X.3)Kirsti saw the fireworks show, but what she really saw was the Danes destroying their military. The Danes did this because they did not want the Germans to use their military.

1. The shortages were pretty harsh. For example, Annmarie's family has potatoes for dinner every night. There luckt to have a chicken once every year. That has to be hard for little kirsti.

2. They act as there bodygaurds by hiding the jews. Like in chapter 5 when Annmari's family tries to help Ellen and how peter helps ellen's parents. That definatley shows how some of the Danes care about the jews.

3. The fireworks that Kirsti saw weren't fireworks at all. They were the bombs exploding on the Naval ships. The Danes blew up these ships so that the Nazis couldn't use them against Denmark.

1) one of the shortages was fuel, so they could not keep their houses warm at night. the Nazis took all of it for their factories. another thing that was hard for the Danes was that the electricity was rationed,Kirsti has to have "fish shoes" because the Nazis took all of the leather, all most every night the Jahansens had potatos, there was no rubber, and nobody had been to the seashore since the war had begun.

2) the Danes could hide Jews in their houses like in Butterfly. they could also help the Resistance fight against the Nazis.

3) She saw the Danes burning their naval fleet. they did this so that the Nazis couldn't use it for their own use.

1. The kinds of shortages the Danish people experienced during the war were for example when winter comes near it starts to get chilly and Denmark did not have much electricity so they had to light candles and snuggle close together. They also were short of supplies to make things for example Kirsti grew out of her old shoes and one day her mother came home with a brand new pair of shoes for her, but Kirsti didn't like them because they looked like they were made out of fish skin.(which they were)

2.The people of Denmark could protect the jewish peopl like acting as if they're their bodyguards by taking them in to their homes and finding a place for them to hide without telling anyone.

3. The kind of "fireworks" Kirsti watched in Augest was actually of the German occupation forces burning down Tivoli Gardens. The Danes did this because the Germans wanted to take over the ships for their own use.

1)Well some shortages the Danish have are there is no rubber for the tires on bicycles. On page 20 it says Samule to school and the author describes how the wood sounds like creeking and clattering. Also Louis Lowery describes how there is no leather for shoes and the shoe makers have to make the closest thing to leather so they use fish skin.

2)The Danes keep the Jews protected by taking one Jewish person and hiding them in your house or finding a way to make them look like they are in the family.

3) Kristi had thought she say fireworks for her birthday but it actiually it was the danes destroying theri own naval fleet, blowing up the vessels one by one. They did that as the Germans approached to take over the ships for their own use.

1. The Danish people don't have very many real shoes. Most people wouldn't be able to find a pair of shoes unless they were made of fish skin and it says in the book that they were lucky to even have those. They also had very little chicken because in the book it says that Mrs. Rosen was able to find a chicken somewhere and it had been their fist chicken in a year or more.
2. The danes could protect the jews by standing up for them like some of the resistance and also like the little rabbit had wanted to do when the terrible things came, in the book The Terrible Things. They also could have helped the jews by letting them hide in their house like in The Butterfly.
3. 1.The "fireworks show" that Kirsti saw on her birthday was when the danes destroyed their own naval fleet. 3. 2.So the Germans couln't use their things and become even more powerful than they already are.

1) Some of the shortages in the war were when the Nazi's found the Jewish people owning shops; they automatically closed the convenient places so the Danish people will suffer.

2) The Danes could protect the Jewish people by letting them hide in their homes, take them to a safer country and make up excuses for them.

3) Kirsti watched bombs going off at the Tivoli Gardens and she thought that they were fireworks. The Danes did not do this, the Nazi's did this.

1. The shortage that the Danish people were experiencing was a shortage of happiness. A shortage of dignity. A shortage of hope. They did not have a fun time throughout the war.

2. The citizens who are not Jewish could help the Jewish Danes by hiding them, or pretending that the Jew(s) are relatives, also by moving them out of the country.

3. On the night where Kirsti thought she saw fire works she didn’t notice that the Danes were just burning the army ships. The Danes did this because they did not want the Nazi’s to take all there army’s supplies and weapons.

1) The food shortages that the Danish people were experiencing was power because at night everyone had a strict bed time like in the book. They had to close the curtains so no light would go through. They did this so the nazis on the street wouldn't see. Also, the turkey that Ellen’s family would have had at roshachana for the holiday was not very common because of the food shortage.

2 )The Danish people could be like the jews bodyguard by putting the jews in hiding. For example Ellen and Mr and Mrs Rosen had to be seperated from each other for their safety. Also, by standing up to the nazis trying to do something not like Mrs Hirsch how she was gone over night .

3) The fireworks that kirsti saw was a bombing and setting on fire. Annemarie’s mother tried to calm Kirsti down by telling her that it was a celebration for her birthday. The Danes bombed the square because they did not want the nazis to bomb the square so they did which is kind of crazy.
